Step 3: 12-Month Elementary Option. Sept Session. Grades K-7. Includes French Immersion

Vancouver Campus

1. What is this?

A 12-month Elementary option that begins in September and ends in August the following year.

2. Do I have to have or be eligible for a degree to be considered for this option?

Yes, and there must be at least 120 credits in your degree program.
See Elementary Academic Entrance Requirements.

3. Do you require transcripts?

Yes, we require transcripts for all of your post-secondary studies.
If you were a UBC student, you do not have to send us a UBC transcript.

4. What if I want to teach French Immersion?

You must have at least 9 credits of French at the 2nd year level (or higher).
Completion of the French Language Appraisal For Teachers is required.
For further French Immersion or Core French Elementary teacher education information,
see this site.

5. Are the other requirements the same if I am interested in the French Elementary option?

6. What if I am not admitted to the French Immersion or FLAGS options?

You will be evaluated for the regular 12-month September Elementary option.

7. What if I want to apply to the West Kootenay Elementary Teacher Education option?

Use the same application process and indicate WKTEP as your first choice.

8. If I’m not able to accept the Letter of Offer of Admission for the program year I’ve applied, will I be able to use it for the following year(s)?

The offer of admission for September of a given year is for the program commencing in that year only. We can save your referee reports and transcripts for one year if you wish to re-apply to the following admission year.

Late applications submitted after deadline until April 30, 2010 considered based on available program spaces.

lpiApplicants from a non-English language university must meet UBC English language requirements for admission to the university.

Applicants to the BEd program must complete the LPI (Language Proficiency Index), with a score of 5, or other acceptable English language competency test, and you must have 6 credits of post secondary English in literature & composition completed in a recognized institute where classes are taught in English.

french language testingApplicants for either the Immersion or Core French options in the Secondary or 12-Month Elementary programs are required to complete the French Language Appraisal For Teachers. The task deals with spoken and written competencies.
