Bed Program Selection Information

Some important notes to remember when you apply:

1. Do I need to apply by the deadline?

If you applied by the application submission deadline, and you have met academic and other requirements, your application will be given preference.
You may still apply after the application deadline, but be aware that available spaces will be allocated first to those who applied on time and who meet entrance requirements.

2. Completion Date of Academic Requirements

If you applied by the application submission deadline, and you have met academic and other requirements, your application will be given preference.
We give preference to applicants who complete all academic requirements by the end of April of a given application year.
Your application will also be considered if you are completing academic requirements between May to August before program start, based on available program spaces. As a result, it is likely that you may not be offered admission until July or August, after all qualified candidates who have completed all academic requirements by April have been admitted to the program.

3. How is my application evaluated?

Your application is evaluated on both academic and other criteria including experience, writing abilities (essay) and references.
Go here for more information about Academic Requirements.
Go here for more information about Experience Requirements.
All applications are evaluated at the same time. Go here for more information about the Application Timeline.
If the number of available places in your program option is exceeded by the number of applicants, not every qualified applicant will be admitted.
Applicants will be ranked according to admission averages, and those with higher averages will be offered admission earlier.
Admission averages are calculated based on prerequisite courses that vary according to each option: Elementary, Middle Years, and Secondary.
To see how you might compare with other past applicants, we provide you with: Bachelor of Education Admissions Statistics (2007-2010).
When we receive your essay and experience summary and your confidential references, we have your data read by education professionals who evaluate it and make recommendations for admission based upon: quality, quantity and relevance of your combined experiences, your written language skills, and references.
Go here for information on the selections process: UBC Calendar.

4. May I apply to more than one option?

Yes, you may apply to as many as two options, indicating your first and second choices on the application form.
In selecting applications, the Faculty gives preference to your first choice. Your second choice is considered only if there is available space remaining after all qualified first choice applicants have been selected.

5. French Language Option

If choosing French Language Option, you will be admitted based on your French assessment results.

6. Do you have more questions that haven’t been answered on our website?

Please read through all the topics on the left-hand menu located on our Apply pages, and if you still need to talk to someone, you may contact our Pre-Admissions Advisors in a variety of ways.
