Time Requirements
A
diploma requires a minimum of 30 senior credits of core and elective
courses. All
courses can be completed in one year of full-time study or part-time
over 5 years. Teachers who work full-time, will find many classes
are scheduled between 4:30p.m. - 7:30p.m. during the fall, winter
and summer sessions and by distance education. There is no limit
to the number of distance education courses taken to fulfill the
specified requirements.
How
to calculate the five-year time limit
Only
courses completed within a five-year time span may carry credits
towards a diploma. Please note the complexity of determining when
the clock starts ticking. It may begin before you actually enroll
in the Diploma in Education.
This means that if you are given permission to include a course
or courses taken prior to entry into the Diploma in Education, the
five-year time limitation starts from the date of commencement of
the earliest course. For example, if you enrolled in the Diploma
in 2000 and took your first course in July of that year, you would
have until June 30, 2005 to complete the Diploma. However, if you
enrolled in the Diploma in 2000 and have two earlier courses which
can be included in the Diploma, one taken in winter 1999 and the
other in the summer of 1998, your completion date is winter 2003.
