English Language Proficiency


  •  
All students admitted to the Teacher Education Options will be expected to demonstrate a high level of proficiency in written and spoken English.
   
  •  
Applicants who have successfully completed 6 credits of English for which UBC gives transfer credit need not write an English Language Proficiency test.
   
  •  
Applicants whose first language is not English and who have not completed the equivalent of 6 credits of English at UBC, are required to demonstrate competence in the English language prior to admission.
   
  •  
English Language Proficiency Tests

1) TOEFL - Test of English as a Foreign Language Scores

One of Paper-based test (score 55*) with the Test of Written English (score 4.0)
or
Computer-based test (score 22*) with the essay (score 4.0)
or
Internet -based test with overall score of 86, 21 each of reading and listening and 20 each of writing and speaking.

*The score indicates the minimum score on each part: Reading, Listening, and Writing

Official test results should be submitted directly to the Faculty of Education from the testing agency.
   
  •  
Information about the TOEFL (taking the test, location, etc.) can be found at www.toefl.org.

2) CELPIP - Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program
CELPIT A (Academic Reading and Writing) - score of 4L
CELL (Listening) - score of 4L
CELTOP (Speaking) - score of 4L
