The Science of Motivation - Pearl Leung

Pearl LeungWhen Pearl completes her BEd in Summer 2008, she’s leaving for China to teach.  Again. This time Pearl intends to open her own school there.

With an academic background that includes Biotechnology and Business, Pearl challenged herself by taking diverse work experiences through university co-op programs. Eventually, Pearl majored in Biology for her BSc and came to realize that teaching was her true calling.  After graduating, Pearl taught in Shanghai for a year and spent another year, traveling, working and teaching.

Her UBC practicum was remarkable for her ability to "hook" secondary students through Science. Because she loves her subject, and because she’s naturally sociable and enthusiastic, interest in the area became contagious. Pearl said her proudest moment was when her School Advisor congratulated her for engaging students who had formerly been indifferent to Science.

Pearl’s Faculty Advisor recognized Pearl as an extraordinary educator. With her resourceful background and commitment to education, her future students will benefit as did the students in her practicum. We hope you return to share your gifts with your fellow Canadians one day, Pearl. In the meantime, all the best for your ventures in China!
