This option prepares generalist teachers for teaching in Kindergarten to grade 7. Teacher candidates in this option teach in all subject areas in the elementary curriculum including Core French in grades 5-7.
The 2-Year Elementary option has at least 73 credits of coursework and includes a 12-credit teaching concentration in addition to the basic program from among: Early Childhood/Primary, English as a Second Language, Expressive Arts, Humanities, Math & Science, Special Education (not all concentrations offered each year). Experience shows that having a specialization as well as the basic program can be valuable when applying for teaching positions.
This program is two academic years in duration, with a summer break (May-August) in the first year. Course sequence may vary and is determined by the cohort standard timetable. Courses may not be taken towards a BEd during the summer. Vacations, weddings and other personal events must not conflict with classes or practica.

UBC Vancouver Senate approves a special Reading Week extension in 2010. UBC Vancouver campus students will receive a mid-term break extension during Term 2 in 2010 to two weeks instead of the usual one week.
The 2009/2010 Reading Break will be held Mon, Feb 15 - Fri, Feb 26, 2010.
*Note: Does not apply to Secondary BEd teacher candidates on extended practicum at that time, and who need to follow the break schedules as set out by their school districts.
